History of the Radford Fiddle & Banjo Jam
Who we are, where we came from, how we got here...

Outdoor jam

Fiddle Fingers
The Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam has been a mainstay of Radford’s music scene since 2000. Bluegrass, old-time and country songs are performed with enthusiasm, skill and wild and wooly abandon, usually to a lively, appreciative crowd.

Hundreds of musicians have participated in the jam since it began on Feb. 7, 2000, a chilly night when seven hardy pickers gathered at a now-defunct restaurant on Main Street. The jam was quite mobile in those early days, moving to BTs and Mocha Joe’s before settling at Joe’s Diner from the summer of 2000 to 2003.

The jam’s popularity steadily grew. The move to The Coffee Mill in June, 2003, exposed the music to a slew of new players and fans. The jam was a centerpiece of downtown Radford, attracting a loyal base of pickers and fans each week. The Coffee Mill closed for good in February, 2010, just two weeks after the jam's 10th anniversary.

After a two-month residency at the spacious Cafe at Wades Supermarket, the jam relocated to the brand new River City Grill, a fun, lively place.

The jam has welcomed many guests over the years, from beginners to bluegrass stars that include Butch Robbins, Ron Stewart, Johnny Williams, Bill Yates and Scott Fore. You never know who might show up each week! Here's to the next 10 years of the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam!
